How the Holcomb Bridge School Library Supports Literacy
Entry 1 September:
Student choice is essential in getting students to read more. We work closely with students to select books that will match their interests and support reading workshop.
Library print and ebooks (MackinVia) are chosen with our particular students in mind.
Our library serves a large range of readers from struggling to 12th grade level therefore we select materials that will appeal to and meet the needs of all learners.
Our books have Lexiles inside them (for the privacy of each learner) and we show students and teachers how to access a list of books in their range through Destiny.
We collaborate with teachers and gather input to select the books their students need.
We provide instruction on how to access eBooks from at least 4 different sources so that teachers and students have a wide range of options.
